PEARLS OF WISDOM FROM APALACHICOLA

A wonderful package arrived in the mail today: a custom-made necklace I commissioned from Brooklyn-based jewelry designer Margaux Lange. Margaux is known for her Re-Membering Barbie series. I have some earrings from that body of work, which I've blogged about here before.
A while ago, I sent Margaux a little jar of pearls that were a gift from my friend A. L. Quick in Apalachicola, Florida. (I've blogged about him before, too.) These pearls were such a generous and wonderful gift that I had to do something special with them. So after tossing some ideas back and forth with Margaux, we came up with the tooth design pictured above. I couldn't be more pleased, and I am thrilled to be able to wear a constant reminder of this magical place and this wonderful friend around my neck.

Thanks, A. L. and Margaux.

I love Appalachicola too! we go to Alligator Point nearly every summer, which is about an hour east of Appalach. And they have the best oysters ever, and I LOVE some raw oysters. The Owl is so great, and such great shopping. I have a photograph by Richard Bickel--love his stuff.

Alexa: Yeah, I'm super-pleased. And it's a bonus to have a great story to share. I might even be inclined to round up some more pearls for more teeth!

Cristen: Apalach is the best. Kurt and I have been talking about making another trip down there for AGES and just haven't managed to do it. We've GOT to make it happen. I heart the Florida panhandle! I heart Apalach oysters, too. But man, it kills to not be able to have them right now. Precisely why I won't be darkening the door of Snackbar again anytime soon. To. Much. Temptation!
