SPONTANEOUS GENEROSITY, ROUND 3

Katherine Dunn, another Internet friend way up and over in Yamhill, Oregon, sent me one of her fabulous lavender-filled creations not too long ago: a donkey named Lucia complete with her own felted huckleberry pie. I think y'all know I have a thing for donkeys. I know you know I have a thing for pie. Donkeys and pies together? Goodness, it's almost too much.

Katherine is an artist, craftsperson, owner of donkeys and baker of pies. She and her donkey, Pino, created an organization called Donkey Dreams & Pino's Pies, which connects people with, you guessed it, donkeys and pie. More than that, though, it is a vehicle for bringing people together to connect, reflect, and heal through the quiet power of interacting with equines and baked goods. Katherine's three donkeys, Pino, Paco and Lucia, are pretty magical. I had the pleasure of meeting all of them when I was in Oregon in May. Lucia stole my heart. Katherine baked a pie. I was in heaven.
This gift was not so much spontaneous as it was extravagant. Katherine has been writing some articles about her life on the farm with donkeys and pie, and she asked me to contribute a pie photograph to accompany one of her essays. I was, of course, quick to oblige. Little did I know, however, that in return I'd receive this fabulous handmade gift.

Thank you, Sweet Katherine! Donkey hugs to Pino, Paco, and Sweet Lucia!

Take a few moments to check out Katherine's paintings, her farm, her lavender crafts and, of course, Pino's Pies. You might just be inspired to become a Pie Ambassador.
